The 7 Reasons Why People BUY: 95% Of Sales Are For Those Reasons
I was listening to a training call inside The Copywriter’s Guild and they talked about the 7 reasons why people buy.
Now if you know these 7 reasons, you’ll be able to use some of these in your copy when writing your ads, blog posts, emails, or whatever you’re promoting. It’s kinda like you reading your prospect’s mind.
Before I share with you these 7 reasons, I’d like to let you know that 95% of sales are for those 7 reasons. As a matter fact, I know that’s true because looking into those 7 reasons I could remember when I bought something and it was for those reasons.
And so, looking at them you’ll be able to remember as well many moments in your life where you’ve bought something and it was for those reasons.
So let’s talk about them below.
7 Reasons Why People Buy:
1. Save Money
How many times can you remember you bought something to save money? Maybe a Costco annual membership card to save on your shopping and groceries? Maybe a gas card to save every time you used gas?
2. Make Money
This is probably the MAIN reason people buy stuff. Just go to Google and type in “make money online” or “make more money” and you’ll see the MILLIONS of results that come out.
People will buy all sorts of stuff to try and make more money. Sometimes what they buy is garbage. Sometimes they’ll just buy too much garbage. But this is definitely most people’s hot button.
3. Save Time
The number one asset you have it TIME.
People will do ANYTHING to save time and to get their time back. This is another main reason why people buy…simply to save time. People would rather learn the shortcuts on how to do something, instead of spending months trying to figure it out themselves.
4. Save Effort
If it’s less work and less effort, people will wanna buy it. Many people are LAZY and would rather not work as hard. So by them saving effort, they’ll be interested.
5. Improve Health
Why do people buy vitamins or weight loss products or healthy fruits & vegetables? To improve their health.
So if you have a product that will help improve people’s health, they’ll be interested in buying.
6. Increase Pleasure
Pretty self-explanatory right? When’s the last time you didn’t feel better when you bought something that made you…..FEEL BETTER?
People buy ALL THE TIME to increase pleasure, that’s fosho!
7. Eliminate Pain
The opposite of pleasure is pain. People will do ANYTHING to get rid of their pain. Major hot button.
So if you know these things,
you’ll be able to bridge the gap between you and your potential customer.
Understanding why people actually BUY stuff is important for you to know if you’re going to try and sell stuff. You don’t have to become some high pressure salezy salesperson to simply understand what makes people wanna buy.
You just have to know that there’s something that’s going on in a person’s mind before they make a buying decision and the reality is that whatever you are promoting is actually NOT what they want. It’s what that product or service will DO for them.
Famous quote from Perry Marshall: “Nobody who bought a drill actually wanted a drill. They wanted a hole.”
So if you understand what that “hole” is for your prospects, you’ll be able to sell them that “drill” must easier.
